Session Title

The Shin Bone’s Connected to the Subhead: Content Modeling for Fun & Profit

Presenter

Melissa Casburn, ISITE Design

Session Type: Activity

You’ve got content, and you bought a CMS. Now you’ve got to get the content into that CMS. What’s the big deal? You just move the old content over to the new pages, right? Wrong.

Done right, a CMS-driven site is built upon a well-planned content architecture with careful attention given to the structure, meta data and relationships between different content types. This process is called content modeling, and it’s an often overlooked part of the user experience and strategy.

This session will let you get your hands dirty exploring the art and science of content modeling. Develop content models based on user scenarios. Define and classify CMS-friendly content that can be retrieved, re-used, and re-mixed for different audiences and locales. Learn how to put your new skills into practice when you get home.

I would love to see this presentation. I’ve given a few talks on content modeling as well. I’d be interested in seeing how you educate clients on the value of content modeling.
