Hackers, Designers, and Lions, Oh My!

Session Title

Hackers, Designers, and Lions, Oh My!

Presenter

Far McKon, Hive76

Session Type: Discussion

Hackerspaces and Open Source projects are two things I know a lot about, and I spent a lot of time working on. Something that I find amazing is the connections and the disconnections between the two. Hackers are building a lot of garage-quality and garage-cost tools for software and hardware, and frankly, their designs smell like day old cheese-steaks.

I’d like to have a discussion introducing Hackerspaces and Open Source projects to designers, talk about what is missing from design of Open Source Hardware, Software, and DIY projects, and how us hackers can make it easier to work with us, and how to sucker… (err convince) designers to jump in and make our amazing ideas a bit more human friendly.

Biography

Far McKon has helped start a city wiki, hacker spaces, and a Hosuing Cooperative. He was born a short, bald, and loud average white kid. In the past 30 years, he has worked hard to overcome those handicaps. These day’s he’s a tall, bald, loud and anything but average.

When he’s not writing software for money, he is writing software for fun, or is helping coordinate amazing people and enabling them to do astounding things. He is, in two words, Creatively Maladjusted.
